Surgical experience: Procedures

• Anterior segment surgery
• Cataract surgery:
  Phacoemulsification, posterior capsulorhexis, lensectomy, ECCE, ICCE, laser phaco, AquaLase, coaxial and bimanual microincision surgery, one- day surgery
• Cataract surgery in complex initial situations: Uveitis, pseudoexfoliation lentis, glaucoma, diabetes, congenital  cataract, primary persistent hyperplastic vitreous body, persistent fetal vasculature, persistent membrane iridopupillaris, luxated lenses, trauma, Marfan- and Marchesani syndrome, and in complex situations (pupilloplasty, aniridia, sphincterotomy, iris retractors, membranectomies, rTPA, etc.), prosthetic iris implants, iris diaphragm lens, Endo capsular ring and Kapselabstandring, sulcus supported implants.
• Surgery of infantile/juvenile cataracts: Combined with posterior capsulorhexis, vitrectomy, glaucoma, pupilloplasty, persistent fetal vasculature syndrome
• Combined cataract/glaucoma surgery
• Combined cataract/corneal surgery with and without keratoprosthesis
• Combined cataract-vitreoretinal surgery
• Introduction of phacoemulsification to the veterinary school, university of Vienna (surgery on dogs)
• Aphakia: Secondary posterior chamber lenses, sulcus supported implants, intraocular lenses with transscleral fixation, iris claw lenses (Artisan IOL), anterior chamber lenses
• Glaucoma surgery: Trabeculectomy, cyclodestructive procedures with diode laser, ultrasound and cryotherapy, cyclodialysis, goniotomy, Molteno tube implants, Ahmed valve implantations, use of cytotoxic substances (5FU, mitomycin C), trabeculotomy, viscocanalostomy, deep sclerectomy, iridectomy, iridotomy, laser trabeculoplasty)
• Corneal surgery: Perforating keratoplasty, lamellar keratoplasty (DSEK, DMEK), temporary keratoprostesis, corneal gluing (using histoacryl), eccentric micro-keratoplasty, sclerocorneal transplant, amniotic membrane transplant, EDTA chelation
• Refractive surgery: Keratotomy for astigmatism, wedge resection, phakic intraocular lenses (ICL, Artisan), pseudophakic intraocular lenses (Sulcoflex), refractive lens exchange, “steep axis incision”, giving courses for photorefractive keratotomy (PRK, LASEK, LASIK)
• Posterior segment surgery: Pars plana vitrectomy (incl. 23g vitrectomies), intravitreal gas tamponades, implants of heavy fluids (perfluocarbons), silicone oil tamponade, silicone oil removal, macular hole surgery, ILM rhexis in CME and macular holes, macular pucker, peeling of the membrana limitans interna in CME, PVR surgery, vitrectomy with keratoprosthesis, buckle surgeries (buckles, cerclages), removal of foreign intraocular bodies with endomagnets or forceps, recovery of luxated intraocular lenses and lens nuclei, caring for complex trauma cases, surgery after choroidal expulsive hemorrhage, surgery in endophthalmitis, diagnostic vitrectomy, ruthenium applicators, intravitreal injection of Posurdex in phase 3 study, application of intravitreal medications (Avastin, Lucentis, triamcinolone)
• Trauma surgery: Plastic reconstruction of the eye lids and the tear ducts, foreign body extractions, care for complex perforating injuries of the eyeball Symblepharon, pterygium, conjunctival and corneal tumors Enucleations, eviscerations with and without implant Plastic and reconstructive surgery of the eye lids and ocular appendages (including tumor surgery).
